Our Roots.

At every opportunity, a Dad from the Northern Beaches of Sydney and his 4 boys would load up the old Prado and the vintage retro caravan with boards, tents, swags, fishing rods and all the necessary stuff for camping, surfing and sitting around the camp fire.

The car would be filled with banter, laughter and the tunes always blaring. On one trip, Dad said “Wouldn’t it be great to make shorts out of old beach towels?”. "That’s a great idea, what would we call them?", “How about Bare Bum”, “That’s so cool” and “Barebum” was born.

Fast forward to the present day, it’s regular trips to the op-shops to source vintage towels and up-cycle them into shorts that are all handmade in Sydney and one of a kind. Along with the shorts, we have our recycled clothing range that is made by artisans in Sydney with ethical manufacturing.

Our promise to you

Sustainable from the inside, out

Our pieces are either made from high-quality, recycled fabrics or upcycled materials to last the many adventures you go on. Our garment bags are compostable and Aussie certified. Our mailer bags are 100% recyclable.

Made in Australia

Our base range and up-cycled pieces are made in Australia from artisans across Sydney. We honour the sun-soaked land that we live on and keep our manufacturing in our shores.

Supporting our community

We care for our community by supporting like-minded events and empowering our people. We offer a workspace in the heart of Crescent Head for digital nomads and freelancers working remotely.

We live a life unhurried with long, dreamy days spent ocean-side, salty and sun-drenched. From early morning wake ups to check the surf with a cuppa in hand to the balmy, summer nights enjoying the last of the rays with a cold one, Barebum is designed to be worn from dawn to dusk.

Barebum is a state of being, soaking up the warmth of the sun and the salt of the ocean.

Barebum acknowledges the traditional custodians of country throughout Australia on the land we work and create. We honour and respect their continuing connection to country, arts & culture, community, land, sea and sky, and pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging.
